Feeding Westchester is an organization whose mission is to nourish residents who are facing hunger. Its programs and events focus on four key areas: Mission, Programs, Events, and Partnerships. Learn more about the organization here. Founded in 1991, Feeding Westchester is an initiative of the Westchester County Chamber of Commerce.
Mission
The Mission of Feeding Westchester is to nourish our neighbors in the war on hunger. We do this by providing healthy and nutritious food to hungry families in the area. Our goal is to provide meals for more than 25,000 people every month. We work closely with local businesses and organizations to raise money and awareness for our cause.
Volunteers are an essential part of this project. The volunteers sort donations and create customized packages for the children in need. The clothing packages include seven outfits for kids, new socks, underwear, and toiletry kits. Girls receiving the clothing bags also receive menstrual products to make them comfortable during their period.
Third-party fundraising events require Feeding Westchester’s approval. Feeding Westchester will receive a percentage of the proceeds. The charity reserves the right to approve or reject any event if it does not complement the Mission and does not project a positive image of the organization. Additionally, Feeding Westchester will not support events that could be considered hazardous.
Programs
Feeding Westchester is an organization dedicated to nourishing our neighbors in the fight against hunger. Whether you’re facing hunger in your community or in the community you serve, we’ve got you covered. Our goal is to ensure that everyone in our community has a decent meal at the end of the day.
Feeding Westchester works with local organizations and businesses to help those in need. A full-time coordinator visits low-income and elderly residents’ homes to provide information and assistance. Additionally, the organization provides books for students. Charity Navigator accredits the organization, and its commitment to helping the community is reflected in its four-star rating. There are a variety of planned gifts you can make to help Feeding Westchester. Many facilities will not deplete your current financial resources, and others will significantly impact the community.
The Food Bank for Westchester has been operating for 25 years and supplies food to over 260 front-line programs. Last year, the organization provided 6.3 million meals to residents in need in the community. By partnering with local businesses and major retailers, Feeding Westchester can help feed the people in our community.
Feeding Westchester receives supplies from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, food drives, and other donations. In the past, it served approximately 130,000-140,000 people a month. However, COVID has limited the number of volunteers and the number of food donations it receives.
Events
Food banks across the country are joining forces for Hunger Action Month, and Feeding Westchester is no exception. The goal is to bring awareness to the issue of hunger and encourage people to take action. By raising awareness and funds, food banks across the country can provide much-needed assistance to those experiencing hunger. The public is asked to support these efforts, which are taking place at local and state levels.
Feeding Westchester has many ways to engage residents and families in its Mission. Whether it’s a birthday party, mitzvah project, or company event, people can use this opportunity to give back to their community. Not only will their efforts impact the lives of those in need, but they’ll also positively impact the lives of those around them.
To hold an event for Feeding Westchester, you must follow a few guidelines. The event must have the approval of the organization that will receive part of the proceeds and must be disclosed. Feeding Westchester reserves the right to approve or disapprove any application.
